It is a light, transparent liquid, almost odorless and with low volatility. It is completely soluble in water and in most organic solvents. In addition, all propylene glycols have a great capacity to hold and dissolve active ingredients equally which allows them to serve as carriers of aromas, flavors, dyes and moisture.
We manufacture propylene glycols USP/EP (Pharmaceutical grade), with a strict monitoring of quality and safe handling, from production to delivery, to offer you a high standard quality product according to Pharmacopoeias (USA; UE).
Our propylene glycol USP/EP (pharmaceutical grade) is qualified and approved for use as an excipient in pharmaceutical applications, as it acts as a solvent and extractant for a wide range of active ingredients besides its dispersant capacity that provides equal distribution of the medicine ingredient in the formulation.
If you areusing propylene glycol in your solar thermal or radiantfloor heating installations, this is a product you should be offeringto your customers. HSE has partnered directly with one of theleading U.S. chemical companies to develop an exclusivesolar-formula glycol made from corn that out-performs everypropylene glycol product on the market, at about the samecost.
Glycol is an anti-freeze solution. In commonuse there are two primary types of glycol: ethylene glycol(monoethylene glycol (MEG), 1,2-ethanediol) is used forautomotive anti-freeze. It is a highly toxic substance andis not used for solar thermal applications due to the dangerof poisoning. In HVAC, radiant heating, chillers, and solar thermalapplications, propylene glycol (propane-1,2-diol) is usedbecause it is non-toxic. Due to it's similar properties toethylene glycol, propylene glycol has quickly become the industrynorm.
Other areas you may find propylene glycol inuse include moisturizers, cosmetics, deodorant sticks, toothpaste, emulsifying agents, food colorings andflavorings, electronic smoke devices, and as a coolant in coolingsystems.
HSE Corn glycol is a non-toxic, safe glycolwith antifreeze properties that has the same molecularformula as propylene glycol (C3H8O2). This environmentallyfriendly, or green glycol, is our glycol of choice forthermal transfer. This renewable glycol is an excellentheat transfer fluid provides a safer, more efficientsolution than does standard propylene glycol.
Only through a special catalytic process arechemical engineers able to turn corn into propylene glycol. To actually create this anti-freeze thermal transferfluid, the corn is broken down into lactic acid, and byutilizing copper ions as a catalyst, with hydrogen gas present, transform the chemical make-up of the lactic acid into propyleneglycol. Corn glycol has been shown in studies to actually be amore efficient form of propylene glycol as a heat transfersolution.
Not only is the corn glycol formed in thisprocess considered a green glycol, the approach itself ismore environmentally friendly, resulting in fewerpollutants and unwanted by-products like alcohols. Thestandard method of creating propylene glycol is less efficient andharmful to the environment due to its use of petroleumbased starting materials. The starting materials for cornglycol are completely renewable corn syrup, making this themethod of choice for producing thermal transfer fluid. This processuses 40% less energy than conventional chemical processes starting withfossil fuel and processed via hydrocracking, reaction, distillation, etc.
The SPP Corn Glycol is specifically designedfor chillers, radiant heating, air-to-water hydronic heat pump, andsolar thermal applications, such as solar hot water, or solar spaceheating. This glycol is completely non-toxic, safe for all types ofsolar heating applications, and is made from sustainable, bio-based rawmaterials. Unlike typical propylene or ethylene glycol - which is madefrom foreign oil or natural gas - this glycol is environmentallyfriendly, made from renewable resources, and domestically sustainable.Because the corn glycol is safe, and considered food-grade, it's theperfect solution for freeze protection even in sensitive environments, such as schools, homes, and hospitals. This corn glycol is manufacturedand shipped in a concentrated form, which allows for superior freezeprotection and flexibility. The concentrate is mixed in the field to theratio you need - providing the freeze protection and mixture that'sright for you and your customer.
Background: Aerosol therapy is an expanding technique allowing administration of drugs acting locally in the bronchial tree and lungs or acting systemically after absorption through the respiratory tract. However, the choice of solvents and adjuvants is a critical step in the formulation process of new drugs. Pulmonary tolerance of ethanol, propylene glycol and sorbitan ester was evaluated in a rat model of intratracheal administration using a Microsprayer in a 4-day toxicity study.
Methods: Four groups of Sprague-Dawley rats (11 rats per group, n = 44) have received, on 4 consecutive days 150 microL of solutions containing the solvents, by intratracheal route using a IA-1B-2 inches-Microsprayer (PennCentury, Philadelphia, PA). Once a day, the rats received deionized water (control) or ethanol 10% or propylene glycol 30% or sorbitan monooleate 10%. All rats were sacrificed 24 h after the fourth administration. Biochemical analysis on bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid was performed on seven rats per group. The respiratory tract of the remaining four rats/group was examined histologically.
Results: Biochemistry and histopathology findings demonstrated that under the conditions tested, deionized water, 10% ethanol, and 30% propylene glycol were tolerated in a qualitatively similar way presenting limited cellular reaction. In contrast, 10% sorbitan monooleate produced an accumulation of foamy macrophages in the lungs and a higher degree of inflammation. In addition, animals in this group showed higher polymorphonuclear neutrophil recruitment and total proteins levels in BAL fluid.
